Accutane (isotretinoin) is a form of vitamin A used for the reduction of the amount of oil produced in the oil glands of the skin. Your health care provider may prescribe it for quicker skin renewal. This medicine can cause very serious life-threatening effects in unborn babies if taken by pregnant women. Make sure you always talk to your health care provider before taking Accutane is you are pregnant or breastfeeding. In case of being allergic to isotretinoin or parabens, it's not recommended to be taking this medicine, as an allergic reaction is possible all over again. You must obtain negative pregnancy test results a month before taking Accutane and during the month before starting the treatment are supposed to use reliable methods of birth control to make sure you do not get pregnancy. Accutane can cause severe birth defects if taken by a pregnant woman. Each time you will have your prescription refilled you will need to take a pregnancy test as well. It is not known for sure whether isotretinoin may pass into breast milk, so in case of breastfeeding also talk to your health care provider. Take your dose of Accutane with a full glass of water to make sure the capsules do not melt in your mouth, as it's then possible to cause irritation.
